Human Vaccines

Vaccine Types

There are several different types of vaccines. Each type is designed to teach your immune system how to fight off certain kinds of germs—and the serious diseases they cause.

When scientists create vaccines, they consider:

  • How your immune system responds to the germ
  • Who needs to be vaccinated against the germ
  • The best technology or approach to create the vaccine

Based on a number of these factors, scientists decide which type of vaccine they will make. There are several types of vaccines, including:

  • Inactivated vaccines
  • Live-attenuated vaccines
  • Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines
  • Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines
  • Toxoid vaccines
  • Viral vector vaccines
Inactivated vaccines

Inactivated vaccines use the killed version of the germ that causes a disease.

Inactivated vaccines usually don’t provide immunity (protection) that’s as strong as live vaccines. So you may need several doses over time (booster shots) in order to get ongoing immunity against diseases.

Inactivated vaccines are used to protect against:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Flu (shot only)
  • Polio (shot only)
  • Rabies
Live-attenuated vaccines

Live vaccines use a weakened (or attenuated) form of the germ that causes a disease

Live vaccines are used to protect against:

  • Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR combined vaccine)
  • Rotavirus
  • Smallpox
  • Chickenpox
  • Yellow fever
Messenger RNA vaccines—also called mRNA vaccines

Researchers have been studying and working with mRNA vaccines for decades and this technology was used to make some of the COVID-19 vaccines.

mRNA vaccines are used to protect against:

  • COVID-19
Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines

Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines use specific pieces of the germ—like its protein, sugar, or capsid (a casing around the germ).

One limitation of these vaccines is that you may need booster shots to get ongoing protection against diseases.

These vaccines are used to protect against:

  • Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b) disease
  • Hepatitis B
  • HPV (Human papillomavirus)
  • Whooping cough
  • Pneumococcal disease
  • Meningococcal disease
  • Shingles
Toxoid vaccines

Toxoid vaccines use a toxin (harmful product) made by the germ that causes a disease. They create immunity to the parts of the germ that cause a disease instead of the germ itself. That means the immune response is targeted to the toxin instead of the whole germ.

Like some other types of vaccines, you may need booster shots to get ongoing protection against diseases.

Toxoid vaccines are used to protect against:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
Viral vector vaccines

For decades, scientists studied viral vector vaccines. Some vaccines recently used for Ebola outbreaks have used viral vector technology, and a number of studies have focused on viral vector vaccines against other infectious diseases such as Zika, flu, and HIV. Scientists used this technology to make COVID-19 vaccines as well.

Viral vector vaccines use a modified version of a different virus as a vector to deliver protection. Several different viruses have been used as vectors, including influenza, vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), measles virus, and adenovirus, which causes the common cold. Adenovirus is one of the viral vectors used in some COVID-19 vaccines being studied in clinical trials. Viral vector vaccines are used to protect against:

  • COVID-19

Treatmentprepares your child's immune system to fight against the hepatitis B virus.
Prescription/Non prescriptionPrescription
FormInjection
Country of OriginMade in India

GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection is a vaccine that prepares your child’s immune system to fight against the hepatitis B virus. This virus causes a serious liver disease called hepatitis. Immunity against hepatitis B also helps in the prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma in children.

GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection is meant to be given in the muscles of the thigh to infants younger than 1 year. In older children, it may be given in the muscle of the arm. Your child needs at least 3 doses of GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection to be fully protected against the hepatitis B virus. While the first shot can be given within 24 hours of birth, the second shot is given when the child turns 1 to 2 months old (after a minimum gap of 28 days) following the first shot. The final third shot is given between 6 to 18 months of age (at a minimum gap of 16 weeks after the first shot and at least 2 months after the second shot).

The vaccination helps stimulate the immune system and builds up high levels of protection against the hepatitis B virus in babies and young children. Therefore, all three doses are important for your child. Do not skip or miss out on any of the doses as that will render the protection ineffective and leave your child vulnerable to hepatitis infection. GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection is safe to be given as a stand-alone vaccine or along with other vaccines at the same time.

Make sure that the site of the injection is not the same again and again. This will help prevent injection site reaction and pain. Common cold, stomach upset, ear infection or any other minor illnesses should not prevent immunization. However, your doctor may suggest rescheduling the vaccination if your child has a more serious illness. Children who are moderately or severely ill should usually wait until they recover before taking the shots of GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection.

GeneVac-B Paediatric Injection can cause some minor and temporary short-term side effects. These may include fever, mild crankiness, loss of appetite, skin rash,  body pain, flushing, respiratory symptoms like runny nose, wheezing, or tightness in the throat. Your child may also experience some injection site problems like tenderness, soreness, redness, or swelling. However, these episodes are momentary and subside on their own. If worrisome, do seek your child’s doctor's help.

Discuss the vaccine safety with your child’s doctor if your child ever developed a serious allergic reaction to any medicines or has a history of liver problems, kidney problems, blood disorders, birth defects, heart problems, or lung problems. This information is important for planning your child’s vaccination schedule.

Hepabsv 100IU Injection helps to protect you against hepatitis B (a virus that damages the liver). It is used to prevent hepatitis B after exposure to contaminated blood through sexual contact, accidental needle prick injury, from an infected mother to her newborn or after a liver transplant.

Hepabsv 100IU Injection is normally given along with the hepatitis B vaccine. It comes from human blood plasma and is given by an injection into a large muscle such as your thigh or buttock. Your doctor will inject the prescribed dose after analyzing your condition. It should be given as soon as possible after the risk of infection is identified. If it is delayed too long, it may not be effective. This medicine is not a vaccine and will not provide long-term protection from hepatitis B.

Manufactured ByBharat Serums & Vaccines Ltd

Berirab P Injection is used with rabies vaccine to prevent Rabies. It works by giving your body the antibodies it needs to protect against the rabies virus. It is administered only once, at the beginning of anti-rabies prophylaxis, to previously unvaccinated persons.

Berirab P Injection is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse. It must always be used in combination with a rabies vaccine. Post-exposure prophylaxis consists of a regimen of one dose of immunoglobulin and full courses of rabies vaccination. This should be given as soon as possible after exposure. Both active (vaccine) and passive immunization (Immunoglobulin) prevent the rabies virus from infiltrating the central nervous system, but become ineffective once the virus has crossed into the central nervous system. Berirab P Injection is administered only once in a lifetime.

The most common side effects include pain, anaphylactic reaction, angioedema (swelling of deeper layers of skin), injection site stiffness, soreness, and tenderness. They do not normally last very long. Sitting or lying down can sometimes help. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you.

Before having the injection, you should tell your doctor if you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to an immunoglobulin. Some other medicines may react with the human rabies immunoglobulin so talk to your doctor about other medications you are taking as well. You should consult your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

FormInjection
Country of OriginMade in India

PRODUCT INTRODUCTIONFluarix Tetra 2022/2023 NH Vaccine helps protect you from influenza (flu). It works by exposing you to a small dose of the flu virus which helps your body to develop immunity against the disease. Vaccination will not treat an existing flu virus infection.

Fluarix Tetra 2022/2023 NH Vaccine is given as an injection into a muscle by a doctor or nurse. It is usually given just before the cold season when the flu virus begins to increase. Normally, only one injection is required to protect you for a year. You should have the vaccination each year because different new strains of the flu virus emerge frequently and different vaccines are developed. It is especially important to have this vaccine if you are elderly or have chronic health problems such as diabetes, heart failure, kidney failure, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also recommended for young children over 6 months of age.

This vaccine can cause mild side effects, but it is better to get vaccinated than to become infected with flu. Influenza causes thousands of deaths each year. The most common side effects include headache, weakness, tiredness, and pain or swelling at the vaccination site. They do not normally last very long. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you.

Before having the injection, you should tell your doctor if you have an illness with a high temperature or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a vaccine. Some other medicines may react with the flu vaccine so talk to your doctor about other medications you are taking as well. As with any vaccine, vaccination may not fully protect everybody, although it will reduce the symptoms of the flu if you get it. It will not prevent illness from avian flu (bird flu) or a common cold. Consult your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.USES OF FLUARIX TETRA SUSPENSION FOR INJECTION
  • Prevention of Influenza (flu)
BENEFITS OF FLUARIX TETRA SUSPENSION FOR INJECTIONIn Prevention of Influenza (flu)Influenza (flu) is a viral infection that attacks your respiratory system (nose, throat, and lungs). For most people, it gets better on its own. However, for people who are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill such as elderly, young children, pregnant women, people with chronic long-term conditions (such as asthma, heart disease, and diabetes), people with weakened immune systems and residents of a nursing home should have the influenza vaccine to provide protection.

Because the flu virus changes quickly and new strains appear regularly, a new vaccination is needed every year (even though you may have antibodies to a previous version). It is never 100% effective and some strains will be immune, but it is still your best defense against influenza and will reduce the seriousness of the illness if you get it. Influenza can be a serious illness and kills a large number of people every year. So, you should ask about this vaccine if you feel you are vulnerable.SIDE EFFECTS OF FLUARIX TETRA SUSPENSION FOR INJECTIONMost side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. YOUR CHILD’S MEDICINE AT A GLANCEGeneVac-B Paediatric Injection is a vaccine that prepares your child’s immune system to fight against the hepatitis B virus.

This information is important for planning your child’s vaccination schedule.USES OF GENEVAC-B PAEDIATRIC INJECTION IN CHILDREN

Combe Five Suspension for Injection is a 5 in 1 vaccine given to infants and young children. It provides active immunization against five severe diseases namely Diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b, Hepatitis-B, Pertussis, and Tetanus. It boosts the immune system and produces protective antibodies against these diseases.

Combe Five Suspension for Injection is to be administered by your child’s doctor only. It is injected into the thigh muscles of infants. In older children, the vaccine is administered into the arm muscle. It is administered in 3 doses, each 4 weeks apart, preferably before the age of 6 months. Generally, it is recommended to administer the 1st dose at 6 weeks of age, the 2nd dose at 10 weeks of age, and the 3rd dose at 14 weeks of age. If a child has not received the 1st dose by the age of his initial year, start vaccination as soon as possible and consult your child’s doctor for the schedule.

Combe Five Suspension for Injection can cause some minor and temporary side effects such as fever, irritation, loss of appetite, injection site reaction (pain, swelling, redness), and skin rash. However, these episodes do not last very long and subside on their own. If worrisome, do seek the doctor's help.

Talk to your child’s doctor before vaccination if your child has a history of liver problems, kidney problems, blood disorders, birth defects, heart problems, lung problems, severe pain or swelling of the limbs, or Guillain-Barré syndrome. Also, let your doctor know if your child has or had any severe allergic reactions to any medicine. You should also consult your doctor if your child has ever been in a coma or has had brain or nervous system problems like seizures before scheduling a vaccination appointment. This information is important for the doctor to prepare a corresponding vaccination schedule.
